Happy Mother’s Day!
When your mom looks like a supermodel.
3/7/1951 Press Photo: Reno, Nevada – The kids come right along when mama goes out skiing here. Mrs Brownie Glover, out for a day’s sport on Mt. Rose near Reno, shows how she carries nine-month-old Linda along in a special papoose-style basket, which she designed herself. Two-year-old Robbie, is old enough to fend for himself on special pint-sized skis.
Somewhere in Europe, decades ago. . . a mother and daughter share skiing and the same expression.
Happy times! Winter vacation 1952 – Arosa, Switzerland
12/23/1963 Press Photo: Former Olympic skier Penny Pitou as she gives first ski lesson to her 16-months-old son Christian on the slopes at Gunstock ski area in Guilford, N.H. Penny and her husband Egon Zimmerman, also an Olympic skier, have a ski school on the slopes.

Greetings: Colorado

Vintage postcard greetings by Cavally for Famoss from the 1930’s.
Today I am headed to Colorado for a proper vacation with my husband. I am primed for spring skiing in the order of sun and balmy temps – but the forecast tells of fresh snow for the Rocky Mountains, adding to what by all accounts has been an epic season. Winter in April.
The next week will bring lots of skiing but likely very little blogging. Follow alpinestyle56 on Instagram for updates.
Spring Skiing: The Optimist
Vintage postcard from Switzerland.
Here’s to one of the best spring seasons of skiing in the Northeast I can remember — at the moment, still more snow than fresh blooms!

Vermont: Maple Sugar Season
It’s that time of year again. Maple sugaring activities are underway in the north country, especially in Vermont – the Green Mountain state produces the most maple syrup in the nation. On March 22 and 23, more than eighty farms will open their sugarhouses to the public for the Vermont Maple Sugar Makers Association’s annual open house weekend. Click here for details to plan a sweet little excursion.
If you are too busy skiing next weekend, hold out until April 5 and 6 to enjoy maple syrup on snow at Stowe’s famous Sugar Slalom race celebration.

And now – the warmth and comfort need not stop as the fast-fashion retailer is promoting down for the spring transition season. Yipee! New styles, new colors, once again starting at $49.95. Après Ski: Cute Boots
The Leland Bootie by Tory Burch. For a non-snow fashion brand, traditional nordic influences and materials have come together in an inspired style that looks at home in the mountains.
Sarah discovered these lovelies at the beginning of winter 2013-2014 and they have been enjoying a full season of après outings. Shown here in the Bear Den Lounge at Burke Mountain, Vermont. Currently, these very boots can be found exploring Sun Valley where they undoubtedly have more like company than in the Northeast Kingdom.
The season is winding down and if you are lucky enough to find your size, you will probably be lucky enough to find them on sale!
The Leland reminds me of boots I came across while shopping Zurich, Switzerland a few years ago and have been dreaming about since. Penelope Chilvers designs the Impossible Boot with a Lapland-inspired upturned toe. . .
. . . and the equally charming Incredible Boot. These boots are as functional as they are stylish with water-repellant pony upper, non-slip rubber soles and super-cozy sheepskin shearling lining.
