Besides my obvious excitement over ski racing legend Annemarie Moser-Proell’s bib number, it is worth pointing out Longines’ commitment to ski racing. Nearly four decades after this photo, the Swiss luxury watch maker remains the official timekeeper of Alpine Ski World Cup. Longines’ history with ski racing dates back to 1933 and maintains vitality with sponsorship of ski champion Aksel Lund Svindal and the Rising Ski Star awards. The brand offers an excellent mobile app offering live timing, news and information, check out Longines Live Alpine Skiing.

Photos (above and below) from 2/16/13 Alpine World Championships Slalom in Schladming, Austria. Hopefully, instead of flowers, Mikaela will soon be accepting a glass globe!
Tomorrow morning I will be anxiously monitoring World Cup Finals race results on my FIS mobile app – waiting to see if Mikaela Shiffrin will battle back to regain her top standing in slalom to win the season title. After losing her 33-point lead last week in the Ofterschwang slalom, she now trails Overall Champion Tina Maze by a mere seven points.
Today in Lenzerheide, Mikaela was awarded the Longines Rising Star award – recognizing her as the top young female racer of the 2013 season. Alexis Pinturault of France was the very deserving men’s recipient. Congratulations!
